Access control is not only efficient at corporate office parks, but also applicable to e-learning centres such as Deloitte Consulting which runs a computer learning centre with fifty computers. To reduce the risk of unauthorized tampering with computers, databases and information, they wanted an access control system installed. We went the route of biometrics whereby fingerprint recognition would be used for allowing or limiting access to the computers. Each student would have a level of access granted to a specific database and the subsequent modules. The student usage could be monitored and tampering with progress reports prevented. Many campuses in South Africa now recognize the value of access control systems such as biometrics for controlling and monitoring of computers in their labs.
