Although parking management at shopping centres is mainly focused on improving convenience of the shoppers and the shopping management, it also has the benefit of improving security. One way that parking management at shopping centres does benefit security is through access control to the area through booms and pressing the button for a time ticket. When cameras are installed at the various entries and exit points which relay to a central point of monitoring, it will be possible to identify any suspicious behaviour. It will also help to identify when a car came into the facility and left as well as noting the driver in case of theft at the facility. Since a client has to pay the ticket with the pay on foot system before leaving the premise, it will prolong the period from when a crime occurred until being able to get to the vehicle and exit. The booms can be controlled to not open in such instances if for instance, a bank robbery occurred at the shopping facility. As such we can consider parking management at shopping centres to improve security of the facility.
