ASD operation
The ASD works by sucking air through pipes to detect any traces of smoke. To do this a central detector is used. The system contains a sample chamber which can detect suspended smoke particles in the air. This is done through detection of light that is scattered amongst the smoke particles that enter the sample chamber. A fan may be needed for the sucking in of air into the pipes. The benefit of the ASD system is its sensitivity. Smoke particles can be detected before they can be seen by the naked eye. It is however, important to install the ASD in a stable aerosol environment for optimal functioning. This type of system is especially suited for areas where smoke will damage products. The network of pipes isn’t aesthetically pleasing and is thus best fitted in rooms where it will not a problem if pipes are visible.
